Simon Han
violin
Simon Han, a sophomore at Dougherty Valley High School, began playing violin at age seven. He has participated in school orchestras since elementary school, and early developed a love for playing in ensembles both large and small. This is Simon’s second year in the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra. He currently studies with Wei He and is also in his school’s Chamber Orchestra. Previously a member of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, he won their concerto competition in 2014.
As a violin soloist, he has won 1st and 2nd place in the 2010 and 2014 Diablo Valley College/Holy Names University Young Artist String Competition. In addition to his youth orchestra engagements, Simon is an active proponent of using music as a way to reach out to the community. He is the Orchestra Conductor of the Tri-Valley Youth Music Ensemble, an organization that plays at various senior centers across the Bay Area in hopes of using music to inspire others.
