In the fourth session of the 2016 Summer Sing-Ins, Omid Zofounoun will conduct Brahms’ Schicksalslied and Handel’s Messiah.
The Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), by Brahms, is an accompanied choral setting of a poem written by Hölderlin. It is one of Brahms’ major choral works, though it is fairly short. Handel’s English-language oratorio, Messiah, uses a liturgical text assembled by Charles Jennens. In three parts, it tells the story of Christ’s Birth, Passion, and Resurrection. The famous Hallelujah Chorus ends part two.
