Michael Oliveira

Michael Oliveira is a 17-year-old senior at Dublin High School and a dedicated musician. He began studying the violin at age 6, cello at 8, and trumpet at 9, and currently studies violin under Amy Liu. Michael serves as concertmaster of the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra, where he has performed for seven seasons. He won the orchestra’s Concerto Competition from 2022 to 2024, performing Sibelius’ Violin Concerto on tour in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with them.
He attended the Sounding Point Academy at the Colburn School during the summers of 2023 through 2025, performing in masterclasses and recitals for world-renowned faculty. Michael has also studied with Robert Lipsett, Simon James, Fabiola Kim, David Halen, Ray Ushikubo, and Bin Chao, appearing in several masterclasses. He has earned 1st prize in numerous competitions including the US Open Music Competition, the San Francisco Young Prodigy Violin Competition, the New York Classical Music Competition, the Beethoven Young Musician Competition, the Clara Schumann International Competition, the London Classical Music Competition, and the Birmingham International Music Competition.
As a chamber musician, Michael has performed in string quartets, piano trios, and brass ensembles. Michael is a member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars and serves as lead trumpet in his school’s jazz ensemble. He also volunteers with Music4America, sharing his music at senior centers. He has performed the national anthem at the Oakland A’s twice. Michael is a 4th-degree black belt in Taekwondo. In his free time, he enjoys reading and programming.
