Dr. Magen Solomon
Artistic Director, San Francisco Choral Artists
Magen Solomon has served as Artistic Director, performing major choral-orchestral works with the San Francisco Bach Choir, since 2014. Artistic Director of San Francisco Choral Artists since 1995, she avidly cultivates engagements with living composers. During her tenure, SFCA has premiered over 300 choral works, performed at conferences of Chorus America and the American Choral Directors Association, and released three CDs.
She has collaborated on performances of major works with Michael Tilson Thomas, Nicolas McGegan, Helmuth Rilling, Kent Nagano, and Christoph von Dohnányi, among others. Dr. Solomon has taught at the University of Southern California, UC-Berkeley, and Santa Clara University, and served as Music Director of the Oakland Symphony Chorus, California Bach Society, and of the Stockton Chorale and Master Chorale, among others. Her scholarly performing edition of 16th-century German part-songs has been published by A-R Editions, and she is past editor of the “New Voices in Research” column in the ACDA’s Choral Journal.
