Lauren Kim returns to the Youth Orchestra for her third season as a freshman at Dougherty Valley High School, where she serves as orchestra concertmaster.  Kim grew up near Los Angeles, where she began violin and piano lessons at age four and five after showing strong interest in music early on.  As a young pianist, Kim performed live on stage with Lang Lang “and Friends” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and placed third in the state-wide Bach Festival.  As a young violinist, she placed second in the Satori Strings Contest and third at the annual Southwestern Youth Music Festival in Long Beach.  Growing into her teen years, she made the difficult decision of selecting the violin as her “primary” instrument for its limitless expressiveness, over the rich complexities of the piano.

Kim volunteers as music director of “Symphonics” – a group of young musicians that perform children’s musicals at various public libraries in the Tri-Valley region. She hopes to make a positive impact in the world with the life-enriching power of music as a conduit for the life-changing message of the Gospel of Jesus.
