Contra Costa High School Chorus
De Anza High School
Stephanie Alvarez, Director
Stephanie Alvarez considers herself to be a musician, educator, adventurer, social justice advocate, and creative soul. Originally from Mexico City, Stephanie came to the U.S. and earned a B.S. in Marketing from San Francisco State University. Her love of music drew her back to school to pursue an A.A. at Contra Costa College and an M.A. at Cal State East Bay.
While completing her M.A. and searching for practical experience, she walked into De Anza High School in Richmond and offered her free services to help the band director who was tasked with teaching choir. A few short years later, she is now full-time and leading a thriving and dynamic growing program.
Her choir was recently invited to perform the National Anthem at the Swearing-In Ceremony for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. She is the recipient of the 2023 CMEA Bay Section Outstanding Choral Educator Award and 2023 CCDA Early Career Conductor of the Year. She continues to lead the De Anza High School Choir, and recently joined the faculty at the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts.
