Alex Hunn

Cello

Alex Hunn is a senior in the IB Program at Modesto High School in Modesto, California. He began playing the cello at the age of 4 under the tutelage of his mother, cellist Jana Hunn. Alex has benefited from master classes and lessons with Anthony Elliot, Michal Palzewicz, Pam Devenport, Julie Newton, and Ira Lehn.

This is Alex’s second year with the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Stanislaus County Honor Orchestra, and the California All-State Honor Orchestra. Alex volunteers his time mentoring young cellists in weekly group classes for the Modesto Suzuki Association.

Some of Alex’s favorite cello moments include performing sold-out shows of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album with Canada-based Classic Rock Albums Live, master classes with Feuermann prize winner Anthony Elliott, and the thrill of playing in a 100-member cello orchestra at the National Cello Institute in Claremont, CA.

A proponent of daily practice, Alex has played his cello every day for nearly 11 years, a total of more than 4,300 consecutive days. After graduation, he plans to study mathematics and continue his study of the cello.
