John Freeman

Trumpet

John Freeman has been the 3rd trumpet of the Oakland East Bay Symphony since 2009. He is also currently the principal trumpet of the Marin Symphony and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, and is a member of Symphony Napa Valley. Additionally, John performs with many other Bay Area ensembles including the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, the California Symphony, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic, Symphony Silicon Valley and the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, among others. John’s credits also include brass quintets, Broadway pit orchestras, big bands, salsa band, rock bands and studio recording sessions. John Freeman teaches private students at his home and throughout the Bay area. He has served as adjunct trumpet professor at California State University, Stanislaus and UC Davis. Before moving to the Bay Area, John was the principal trumpet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina. John holds a Bachelor and Master Degree in Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Michael Sachs and James Darling. He also studied at the Tanglewood Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Festival, Spoleto USA and Yellow Barn Music Festival. John Freeman lives in San Rafael, California with his wife, Robin. When he’s not performing or teaching music, John enjoys cycling, running and home roasting coffee.
