Oakland Symphony Gala
Opus Oakland: Bridging Heritage & Horizons
Thursday, June 5th, 2025 | The Bridge Yard, Oakland
Honoring
Cestra Butner, Calvin Simmons Legacy Award
Opus Oakland Co-Chairs
James F. Bell
Michael Colbruno
Thank you to everyone who attended and for making Opus Oakland an unforgettable celebration of music, community, and generosity.
With nearly 200 guests in attendance, the evening was filled with joy and inspiration — from the presentation of the Calvin Simmons Legacy Award to the extraordinary Ces Butner, to Dan Ashley’s expert guidance through a program that featured inspiring performances by members of our Symphony, Chorus, and Youth Orchestra.
We were deeply moved by soprano Hope Briggs’ powerful interpretation of “Vissi d’Arte” from Tosca, and we ended the night on a high note with dancing to DJ Mani Draper following a delicious dinner, dessert reception, and spirited live and silent auctions.
To our co-chairs James F. Bell and Michael Colbruno, and to all of our sponsors, donors, ticket buyers, and guests — thank you. Your support ensures that we can continue to deliver transformational musical experiences, expand music education, and keep the Symphony representative of and accessible to all.
Thank you for the support from our community…
