Maestro Morgan once again shines the spotlight on Romantic composers with Joachim Raff’s Symphony No. 3. Raff composed his Symphony No. 3 in Weisbaden in 1869 and it premiered in 1870 in Weimar. It is one of his most successful works and earned him his reputation as a symphonist. One critic called it “the best symphony of modern times,” while a fellow composer described it as “colossal.”

Acclaimed by the New York Times as “the versatile violinist who makes the music come alive,” Kelly Hall-Tompkins will perform the U.S. premiere of Matthus’ new violin concerto, Dream of a Summer Night and John Williams’ theme from Schindler’s List and a selection from Fiddler on the Roof. The Youth Orchestra will join Oakland Symphony for Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, following their return from a successful tour of Cuba.
